The structural characteristics of the peroxy functional group in organic peroxides determine that peroxides have the following chemical properties:
(1) Strong oxidizing effect.
(2) Has the nature of natural decomposition, above 40 ℃, most of the peroxides active oxygen reduction.
(3) Acids and alkalis can promote decomposition. Strong acids and hydroxides of alkali metals and alkaline earth metals (solid or highly concentrated aqueous solutions) can cause intense decomposition.
(4) Iron, cobalt, manganese organic peroxides and redox system compounds significantly promote decomposition.
(5) Strongly reducing amine compounds and other reducing agents significantly promote decomposition.
(6) Iron, lead and copper alloys promote decomposition.
(7) Rubber promotes decomposition.
(8) Friction, vibration or shock to the storage container resulting in a localized increase in temperature may promote decomposition.
